Sexual Assault

A sexual assault can leave you feeling like you have lost a piece of yourself.  Your emotions are intense and may at times be uncontrollable.  Images and thoughts about the incident can intrude into your mind making it impossible to concentrate on the meaningful things in your life.  There may be a gulf between you and those you love making it hard to feel close to people, to feel safe, or feel connected.  Fears and anxiety can feel like they are taking control.  Safety may be elusive.

Sometimes it seems like the easiest way to move forward is to just move on, forget about and block it from your mind.  If you have tried this and find that it never works for long.  The memories or emotions come flooding back.  Headaches or stomach pains recur.  You can’t get close to people in relationships and you just don’t feel safe.  You are a survivor but now it is time to reclaim your ability to thrive.

Therapy for sexual assault is about being brave despite the fear.  Reclaiming your right to feel safe.  Step by brave step, we work to create internal and external safety through exercises to redevelop your relationship with your emotions, your body and your world.
