Getting Started

The Phone Call

Is one of our therapists the right one for you? During that initial phone call, we will ask you a little about what you are looking for in a therapist and what led you to make this connection.  We will discuss if and how we can be helpful.  We will share with you a little about our therapeutic philosophy and practice.  If you feel that it has been a good connection, we will make an appointment for you to meet your therapist.  If either of us feel that you would be better served by another professional, then we will provide you with the contact information of a suitable provider.

Between the Phone Call and the Appointment

Shortly after you schedule your appointment, you will receive an email invitation to the client portal.  Here you will complete several forms including those that explain your rights in therapy.  Please complete these within 24 hours as they will be used to confirm your appointment.  If your appointment is online, you will be sent a secure Luxsci email with the link to your appointment after the paper work is submitted.

If you have made this appointment for your child, let them know about the appointment.   Speak with your child about the reasons for the appointment and how we are here to help both of you.  If the appointment is for yourself, take some time to clarify why you are seeking therapy and what you hope to get out of the experience.  Consider what is not working for you right now and what your ultimate goals are.

The Day of the Appointment

Whether your appointment is online or in person, give yourself plenty of time to get situated. For in person sessions, there is parking in the back of the building off Church Street.  We are located on the second floor.  Come into the space and make yourself comfortable on the couch or chairs.  We will come out to greet you at your appointment time.

If your appointment is online, sign on fifteen minutes early and wait for you therapist to join you.  Watch the following video to learn how to prep your space for a great online therapy experience.

At the Appointment

When the appointment begins, we will review some of the paperwork and you will have the opportunity to share what has brought you into therapy.  From there we will talk about a number of areas of your life, your history, your family and your goals.  You may share as little or as much as you feel comfortable.  If the therapy is for your child, we will spend time talking with you and your child, you alone, and, if you child is comfortable, your child alone.  Finally, we will all come back together to discuss how we can approach meeting your goals.
